Making and performing theatre at the Shoebox

We work with all kinds of artists – writers, directors, theatre makers, and performers by offering a variety of artistic platforms and opportunities including:

FUSE - Our annual festival where six emerging artists test a new performance idea over three days. FUSE is about supporting the beginnings of new work before it's fully developed and is open to new applications in November.

Auditions - We hold auditions for Wrong Shoes our resident devising theatre company on a project by project basis,

Theatre residencies - We offer up to two weeks space and support to develop new work. Residencies have the option to include a pay what you can performance at the end to test-drive the work in front of an audience.

Small-scale touring - 1 night performances of finished shows. We work on a box office split, in the artist's favour, with all visiting companies. Unfortunately, due to our size, are unable to offer guarantees and are therefore best suited to ACE funded work or similar. The theatre’s programme is a curated mix of contemporary theatre and new work for all ages. We do not programme Shakespeare or classics, instead we favour devised work and new ideas.

If you want to be to considered for a residency or to be programmed at the Shoebox, get in touch with our Artistic Director, Luke, at post@shoeboxtheatre.org.uk and he’ll get back to you as soon as he can!

When contacting us about your proposal, please include as much information about you/your company and your idea as possible, including images, video links, website links and reviews, however, please do not send entire scripts! Please also include information on roughly when you are looking to develop your work at the Shoebox Theatre. We generally programme residencies at the Shoebox 6 months to 1 year in advance.

Please note, we do not programme amateur dramatics or youth theatre companies and we almost never transfer a show that has been on elsewhere in the local area or plays that are already published.

"What a great space... They were very helpful, nothing was too much for them, great communicators too. They worked hard to promote our show, making it a sell out!"
